Welcome to the 2nd edition of World Community Grid's newsletter! |
 |

2006 has already seen major accomplishments in the research work running on World
Community Grid. You can read more about our progress on the Human Proteome Folding and
FightAIDS@Home projects
in this newsletter.
As always, we want to thank our volunteer community who are at the heart of this
important work. Since the beginning of the year, our volunteers have contributed nearly 10,000 years of run
time. The total run time provided by members is now in excess of 35,000 years. This means that it would have taken one
computer 35,000 years to run the research that has been completed thus far!
Progress on these research efforts was due in large part to significant increases in
volunteer participation. World Community Grid added approximately 50 new partners, bringing the grand total
to over 150 partners, all of whom play a critical role in bolstering our volunteer community. Partners
encourage their employees, students, faculty and others to participate in World Community Grid and receive
recognition on our partner page. Partnership is limited to businesses, associations,
foundations, not-for-profit organizations and universities. To become a partner, please click
here.
Members also have created more than 1,300 new teams. Teams strengthen World Community
Grid's volunteerism by creating a greater sense of community, as well as healthy competition. You can learn more about teams in the technical tips section of the newsletter. The points each
individual earns also earn points for his or her team. To join or create a team, simply sign in to World
Community Grid and from the My Grid page, click on the link that reads: "Find a Team to Join."
Many new Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) were added to the web site as a result of
questions that members submitted. You can access the FAQs by clicking on Help
on the upper navigation bar on
any page of the web site. The Help facility has a search feature that shows all FAQs related to any word that
you enter into the search field.
| Finally, we launched World Community Grid in French, the first non-English version of the
website. If you are in a French speaking country, your browser will show you the French version automatically.
If you do not see it, go to the home page
and access the drop-down box on the
right in the upper navigation bar. From there you can select the "Francais" option. |
 |
The year is off to a great start, and we look forward to the productive months ahead.
Later this year, World Community Grid will launch several new research projects, and we will need your computing
power more than ever.
