| Project Update |
|
 |
The Human Proteome Folding Project — Phase 1 has been completed, and scientists are now examining the results.
A soon-to-be published paper with all the Human Proteome Folding results generated by World Community Grid will be made publicly available for
other researchers to leverage. The second phase of the project – Human Proteome Folding Project — Phase 2 – was launched in June and holds great promise in uncovering
even more information on the role of proteins and their impact on diseases such as malaria.
|
The FightAIDS@Home project continues to make significant strides. The first phase was finished in April, and scientists are currently
examining the results and will share their findings with us. The second phase is now underway and is scheduled to run on World Community Grid
for the remainder of 2006.
The newest project, Help Defeat Cancer, was launched on July 20, 2006, and holds great promise in helping doctors select more accurate treatments
and provide more accurate prognoses for cancer patients. |

| Volunteer Update |
|
| World Community Grid now has more than 200,000 registered members and more than 368,000 registered devices,
which together have donated more than 49,000 years of compute power to research projects. These are significant numbers, which are reflected
in the research results. Our volunteer base continues to grow in large part because you are telling your family, friends and
colleagues about World Community Grid. |
 |
To bolster the volunteer base even more, in April of this year, we made World Community Grid available to owners of Mac computers. We also added a
throttle to the grid software to make your volunteer experience smoother. In order to have the least impact on your device, World Community Grid's software
now runs at approximately 60% when active. To have it run at a higher percentage, please review the throttle instructions.
If you are a member who registered for World Community Grid and are no longer active, we invite you to rejoin. Rejoining is even
easier than joining - as long as you remember your original member name! If you don't remember your original name, simply enter a new one when you
rejoin. For questions about rejoining or any other topic, you may ask them on the Forums and a
Community Advisor will provide an answer. Also available to you is an extensive Help facility and a
Contact Us feature where you can send your questions
directly to World Community Grid's support team.
We hope you enjoy this newsletter. World Community Grid and the scientists who sponsor the research projects thank you very much
for donating your computers' unused cycles toward important humanitarian research.
