World Community Grid moves to BOINC

World Community Grid is now using the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) software exclusively.

To determine if you are still running the United Devices (UD) software, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the grid software by clicking on World Community Grid's icon in your system tray ()
  2. If the grid software is identified with the words "BOINC Client" at the top, then you are running BOINC and no further action is necessary.
  3. If the grid software is identified with the words "Powered by United Devices" in the lower right hand corner, then you are no longer contributing to World Community Grid. In order to continue to participate, please follow the information below.
To obtain the BOINC software, visit the download page where you will find instructions for installing the BOINC software. The BOINC software installer will automatically detect the UD software and remove it.

For further information about this migration, please review this post in Member News forum. You can read about the features and advantages of the BOINC software in a technical tip from the March 2007 newsletter.

If you have any questions, we encourage you to post them in the BOINC Agent Support forum.

The BOINC software platform has been in use by World Community Grid since November 2005. It was added originally to provide support for users of the Linux and Macintosh operating systems, but due to its popularity, World Community Grid also has supported BOINC on Windows since December 2005.

World Community Grid will not be releasing any new projects on the UD software platform.
