World Community Grid celebrates its fourth anniversary!

This month, on November 16th, World Community Grid celebrates its fourth anniversary!

On our fourth anniversary, we celebrate our tremendous volunteer force of more than 411,000 volunteers who have registered more than 1,111,000 individual PCs. Together, we have contributed enough computing power to make World Community Grid the largest volunteer effort of its kind on the planet. More than 195,000 years of computer run time have been provided, allowing for 216 million results to be made available to important humanitarian research.

Most importantly, today we celebrate results that are accelerating research on the most critical health issues like HIV/AIDS and cancer, on environmental issues like global climate change and on poverty issues like world hunger. To date, we have launched 10 ambitious research projects, including our active projects: Nutritious Rice for the World; Help Conquer Cancer; Discovering Dengue Drugs – Together; Human Proteome Folding – Phase 2; and FightAIDS@Home. Through these projects, we are demonstrating World Community Grid's potential to make significant inroads on a great range of future projects.

In the next year, we hope to continue to expand our volunteer base. To date, we have brought on an impressive list of 397 global partners – businesses, universities, associations and nonprofits who are encouraging their employees, members, students and others to become part of this important initiative.

World Community Grid's fifth year will bring on promising new research projects. We expect these projects to attract new volunteers, partners and greater media attention to World Community Grid.

When this project began four short years ago, none of us imagined that we could achieve so much in such a short period of time. But we have, thanks to all of our members.

Please stay tuned and engaged! And please encourage others to do so as well.

Happy Anniversary!
