The principal investigator for the project will be presenting at two virtual conferences before the end of 2020.
95% of agriculture in Africa depends on rainfall. The Africa Rainfall Project uses massive computing power, data from The Weather Company, and other data to provide more accurate rainfall forecasts, which will help farmers more successfully raise crops.
Analysis of results
In last month's update, we mentioned a student who was working with the researchers for a few weeks to assist with data analysis. The student has now completed her rotation, and the researchers will continue looking over her work in the coming weeks. They'll share the results of the analysis once it's complete.
The project's principal investigator, Professor Nick van de Giesen, will be presenting at two virtual conferences before the end of 2020. One presentation will be given at the American Geophysical Union's fall meeting, and the second will be for the Norwegian Meteorological Society. Both presentations will center around the Africa Rainfall Project.
Current status of work units
World Community Grid is currently sending out generations 35 and 36. (A generation is a set of work--in this case, a set of computer simulations of rainfall in sub-Saharan Africa.)
