April Update: Microbiome Immunity Project
15 Apr 2021

Summary

The research team continues to analyze the enormous amounts of data generated by World Community Grid while preparing for the publication of their first paper.

Background

Trillions of bacteria live inside and on our bodies. The Microbiome Immunity Project uses the computational power of World Community Grid to study the proteins produced by these bacteria, which are encoded in their genomes. This can help scientists understand the role of the microbiome in disease.

So far, the researchers have run more than 300,000 protein sequences through their pipeline, and they have more sequences to run in the future.

Papers in progress (including one to be published soon)

For many months, the researchers have been hard at work on three papers about the project. They continue to analyze data for two of the papers, but the third was recently accepted for publication. We'll let everyone know once the paper is online.

Current status of work units

  • Available for download: 4,282 batches
  • In progress: 3,263 batches (6,050,867 work units)
  • Completed: 328,609 batches (1,285 batches in the past 30 days,
an average of 42.83 batches per day)
  • Estimated backlog: 100 days
