World Community Grid Newsletter
Fall of 2005
Welcome to the first World Community Grid Newsletter! We would like to thank you for your continuing participation in our mission to create the world's largest public computing grid. With this grid, we've been able to tackle projects that benefit humanity. Through this newsletter, we will keep you informed of the latest accomplishments, updates on active research, and site enhancements.
A Year of Accomplishments
On November 16, World Community Grid celebrated its one-year anniversary — and the significant contributions to humanitarian research made possible by our volunteers.

Since its launch, more than 100,000 people from 157 countries have volunteered their unused computer time to World Community Grid, registering in excess of 170,000 PCs and laptops. This tremendous volunteer force donated more than 20,000 years of computer run time and returned nearly 19 million results — or one result every two seconds! Read More >>
World Community Grid Launches FightAIDS@Home
AIDS is perhaps the most devastating epidemic of our time. Approximately 42 million people around the world are living with HIV or AIDS, and just under 14,000 new cases of HIV infections occur every single day. About 95 percent of all AIDS cases occur in the world's poorest countries; its growing impact on the developing nations of the world is both tragic and destabilizing. Learn More >>

Human Proteome Folding Project Produces Significant Results
Thanks to the tremendous volunteer power of World Community Grid, the Human Proteome Folding Project has produced significant results since its launch last November.  Researchers at the Institute for Human Biology (ISB), which sponsored the study, now have information to describe the structure of approximately 27,000 protein domains in the Human Proteome that could not be completed with traditional approaches. Using only the existing computational power at ISB, it would have taken 100 years to get these results, compared with just 12 months on World Community Grid. Read More >>
